Learn How to Write a Book Report

Many students discover that they must write a book report while in school. Writing a great book report doesn’t have to be difficult. The first step to writing a book report is to follow any instructions given by the teacher or instructor. The teacher always gives a “due date” for the book report and to ignore this would be to also not follow the instructions.

Reading the book for the book report is also important. While this may seem like a very simple statement: it isn’t. An excellent idea is to first read the directions given by your teacher and then to read the book.

Owning your own copy of the book is extremely helpful also. When you are reading a library or borrowed copy, you know that you cannot take notes in it. While reading the book it is also useful to notice the role of each character in the story. What does each character represent? What do your feel the writer is trying to say about life or society with these characters? As you read, look for quotes that best represent this story and these characters. A book report is also not complete without your opinion. What have you thought of the book? While answering the question, pay attention to the related questions that your teacher has asked you, as they may want you to focus on a certain aspect of the book. Everyone that reads a book has a different opinion. Your sharing of your opinion is what makes a book report unique and all its own work. Otherwise, your report would simply be a research project.

Writing a book report is often a great learning experience for a student. Books can teach you about how society viewed people at that particular time. Construction is a huge sector of the British economy - UK construction output is the second largest in the EU and contributes 8.2% of the nations GVA (Gross Value Added). The construction sector is big business - 250 000 firms employ 2.1 million people in a multitude of roles - a figure expected to increase to over 2.8 million by 2011; that’s over 7% of the UK’s workforce.

How to be Number One on Google?

Everyone who has a website wants to be number 1 on Google for their chosen key words/phrases and it is possible, it just takes time and lots of hard work. The reason we all want to come up of the front page of Google is because Google is the most powerful search engine on the internet and delivers the most relevant search results.

Being number one for your chosen keywords is all well and good but what if nobody uses those search keywords? It is very important to research and identify key phrases that for one are not too competitive and two, what people will write into Google. For example if you have a hair salon and wish to come up on the front page for the words ‘hair salon’ it will take a lot of time and hard work as there are 8,390,000 results on the day of writing this. However if you think locally, say your hair salon is in Halifax, West Yorkshire then you should be trying to target ‘Hair salon in Halifax, West Yorkshire’. This produced 121,000 results which is much more attainable. It is much easier to get your site on the front page for search phrases of 3 or 4 words than it is for just 1 or 2 words.

Finding the right key phrases to target is essential in your online marketing plan. There are tools online which can help but why not ask as many people as possible, you will be surprised as many people will use many different search phrases. The more you target the more chances you have of people finding your site. ‘Never put all your eggs into one basket’ is an old fashioned saying but it is relevant here.

Talking of relevance, relevance is all about being number one on Google. Google is a text analysis system which analyses the text on your site and the links into it from other sites. So your page needs to be very relevant to your search phrases. So if your page is about pink handbags make sure the text states this very clearly and often. Not too often, keyword stuffed is frowned about and could cause you to get banned. You need to write the text as naturally as possible but also ensure there is good keyword density which can be done with trial and error or using online tools.

As well as strong keyword rich text you also need links into your page from other relevant sites. The more links in from other relevant sites is what makes your site popular in the eyes of Google. Finding links can be time consuming but there are some short cuts. There are a few strong directory sites which Google likes so being listed in these is a big boost. Yahoo Directory, DMOZ, Business.com and Best of the Web are some of the top ones, but they cost up to $299. Getting in DMOZ is very hard, practically impossible unless you know someone who works there!

Another way of getting links is to write articles about your subject and post them around to some of the strongest articles sites. Ezinearticles.com, articlealley.com is two of the best but there are hundreds more. You can actually buy software which actually posts the articles to hundreds of sites in one go. Potentially this can be a way of getting hundreds of links with quite little effort. This is the reason behind this article. This article is relevant to the page I am trying to promote. At the bottom of the page will be a bio with a link to the page I am trying to promote.

Adding content is another important aspect of search engine marketing. Google treats websites with more than 100 pages of good content differently from smaller sites. This might sound daunting but it really is not. If you are trying to target local traffic in your county you can start off by writing pages about each town, like I explained earlier. You will soon build up your site and before long your site will be 100’s of pages and be very authoritative and relevant within your chosen filed.

To summarise:

• Do search phrase research

• Write relevant keyword rich text.

• Try to get links in to your website from authoritive sources.

• Write articles linking to your site and post on as many article directories as possible, remember the all important link back to your page.

• Add content.

If you do all of the above you should start to see an improvement in your rankings and traffic. Having hundreds of hits each day sounds great but if the conversion rate is low they are all wasted hits. What I mean by conversion rate is that if only 2 out of every hundred hits actually buy a product or call you for a quote then there is little use of those hundreds of daily hits and your rankings. First you need rankings, then you have clicks, then you need conversions. So before embarking on search marketing I would make sure your site is the best it could possibly be. Look at your competitors, make your site better, then with a little help from search marketing you could be laughing all the way to the bank.

Careers in the Rail Industry: Great Opportunities For Skilled Workers

Following privatisation, British Rail was divided into two main elements. Network Rail is the owner and operator of the national rail network in the UK, and provides rail network access to train and freight operators.

Network Rail’s two main activities, infrastructure maintenance and track renewal, are provided in-house and by a supply-chain of contractors and sub-contractors. Responsibilities cover 20,000 miles of track, 1000 signal boxes, 40,000 bridges and tunnels; 18 major stations; 3m passengers a day and 32,000 employees. Total expenditure to operate, maintain and renew (OM&R) the railway increased from under £3 billion in 1995 to 96 to a peak of around £6.5 billion in 2003 to 04 in the wake of the Hatfield derailment and the significant increase in activity levels and unit costs. Expenditure is projected to be around £5 billion a year over the next few years.

The second part of the renationalised railway system consists of Network Rail’s main customers: the 21 passenger and four freight train operating companies, who provide train services on the infrastructure that the company owns and maintains. Network Rail does not run passenger services directly; ultimately both Network Rail and the train operating companies have the shared responsibility of delivering train services to the traveling public.

Many analysts consider the prospects for the rail industry to be extremely positive. Unprecedented government investment to upgrade the UK’s rail infrastructure, passenger numbers at their highest level for sixty years, rapidly increasing freight traffic and performances improving all contribute to many new and exciting opportunities for organisations and individuals involved in the industry. It’s clearly accepted within the industry that these positive trends create new challenges to accommodate this record growth and plan ahead for future expansion.

Perhaps the major challenge the rail industry faces is finding suitably skilled engineering and construction staff who can help deliver a safe and reliable rail network. It’s an ongoing issue being at least partially addressed by the development of significant in-house engineering and management skills, including funding of apprenticeship and foundation degree schemes operated by Network Rail and many of the larger companies such as First Great Western and EWS (English, Welsh and Scottish railways). Additional challenges such as effectively optimising the existing network, investing in large-scale projects, and promoting sustainable development are also being tackled head-on with plenty of new recruits required

Within Network Rail, one of the train operators or in one of the many other companies that supply and support the industry positions within the rail industry are varied, stimulating and decently paid. You’ll find pretty much any sort of position you could imagine from civil, electrical and mechanical engineers who might deal with track and train maintenance, signal design and implementation; Planners who’ll maintain, plan, schedule, allocate and manage resources; QS (Quantity Surveyor); Project Managers; Construction; Safety; I.T. and CAD Design. The list is almost endless.

There’s also no shortage of administrative and rail management positions, Rail Operations Management for example, who are responsible for the operational and strategic management of company staff, services and infrastructure, along with accounting, auditing, sales, marketing and communication opportunities.

What is the Scope of the it Skills Crisis and Are we Tackling it in the Right Way?

Recent research suggests that British Business requires 150,000 new entrants into IT each year. Over the past few years the number of graduates in IT has halved to 20,000.

The figures speak for themselves. Even the most ardent sceptic cannot deny the skills deficit that we currently face. But why does this gap exist and are industry and Government adopting the right strategies to tackle it?

In my view; it’s all about career change – supporting individuals working in the UK’s declining industries to retrain for a role in IT. But while this sounds like a practical common-sense solution to a growing problem, it is receiving little support.

Efforts are being made to promote IT to under-represented groups, such as women, but it seems that little is being achieved in terms of promoting uptake of the subject in secondary and higher education. From a relatively early age it appears that able students are led towards the sciences and IT skills are not given the same kudos.

The generation currently in secondary education has grown up with technology so their lives are dramatically different from their predecessors; access to the internet, mobile phones, sophisticated gaming consoles have all impacted their aptitude to and perception of technology. So it seems strange to me that more students aren’t inspired to study for the jobs which shape and mould these inventions. It could be that they take the technology for granted, or it could be the age old image problem.

The other issue influencing the perception of the IT industry, and one which I believe is having an impact on the number of students opting for IT courses, is outsourcing.

Using Forums to Build Website Traffic

One of the greatest things that can happen to us when we are a website owner is for us to be flooded with a continual stream of traffic. Unfortunately, that can be a difficult thing to accomplish and many of us may spend a large amount of time trying to get that traffic to visit us without much success. Perhaps we are focusing on difficult to obtain positions in the search engines for keywords that are over saturated with competition. You can really step outside of the keyword research for a little while and build some traffic to your website with the use of forums.

If you are going to build some traffic with signature links in forums, there are some things that you need to know before hand. First of all, you need to understand forum etiquette so that you do not offend those that you are trying to get to visit your website before they ever have the opportunity to click the link. Forums tend to be rather tight communities and they don’t take well to individuals coming in and blasting out of marketing message. They do, however, enjoy it when people add to the conversation and do so in an intelligent way. If you have a website on a particular subject then you should try speaking intelligently about that subject in the forum, perhaps offering free information. If you do so, people will naturally want to visit your website to see what else you have to say. This can lead to a lot of repeat visitors and regular readers.

You also need to make sure that you are marketing to the right people. You can’t go into a form that is about dogs and begin marketing on how to make money and expect to have all that much response. You need to make sure that the forum that you are visiting is directly related to whatever it is that you are offering. You can find these forums in a variety of different ways but two of my personal favorites are as follows. First, you can go to one of the forum directories that are online because the forums that are listed are generally categorized. If you use this method, you may be missing some forums because not all of them are listed in these directories. In that instance, you can go to Google and type in a keyword that is directly related to what you’re offering and then type the word forum after it. This should pull up plenty of results for you to choose from.

Forum marketing can certainly bring a lot of visitors to your website if it is done in a proper way. Just make sure that the forum you’re marketing to is busy enough to make it worth your efforts. Everybody loves to talk about a subject that they are interested in and if you can add some interesting information to the topic, you would be surprised with the number of people that will listen to what you have to say.
